Use Powershell to manage Windows Scheduled Task#
A recent project made me to use the Windows scheduled task to execute periodically some python scripts. After the project, I find using Powershell to manage the Windows scheduled task is not so straightforward, that's why I opened this post to share my experience on some common usage, and hope this can save your time if you also need to use it.
Scheduled task Powershell cmdlets#
From the official Windows scheduled task powershell doc, we can find the ScheduledTasks module provides many cmdlets:

Guess what is the cmdlet to create the task? New-ScheduledTask? Wrong, it's Register-ScheduledTask.
Create scheduled task folder#
By default, all the scheduled tasks are created under the root "\" folder, if you have many tasks here, from the taskschd.msc GUI, it might take time to display all of them. So I suggest to create your tasks to some custom task folders. And withthat, you can easily filter on (Get-ScheduledTask -TaskPath) only your interested tasks especially if some other tasks have the similar name as the yours.

Disable disabledomaincreds#
In some corporate networks, the Windows or security admins might enable the security policy : Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication
. If this policy is enabled, we will not be able to use Register-ScheduledTask with the -User
param. Its registry setting can be found from the Microsoft official excel file for Group Policy Settings Reference for Windows and Windows Server, There's also a online variant here: (http://gpsearch.azurewebsites.net/).

Create scheduled task#
Suppose we need to : - Run the script 'd:/scripts/job1.ps1 arg1' every 30 minutes from 2018-09-05T18:00:00. - The script should be stopped if it runs more then 15 minutes. - The script should be executed under the account 'user1' with the password 'password1'. - The task should be in the 'project1' task folder. - The task name is 'task1'.

Get scheduled task log#
It seems that there's no cmdlet to get the task log from the *-ScheduledTask cmdlets list. Yes, you're right, the task log is saved directly to the standard windows event log. You can use Get-WinEvent (Get-EventLog is an old way) to get it.
